Motherhood Is……

As we approach Mother’s Day, I’m reminded that it’s one of those holidays that can bring about a range of emotions.

For some, it’s a time that evokes emotions that are not so good.  Mother’s Day can serve as a reminder of strained and/or absentee relationships, loss and death.  For others it’s a happy time of year to celebrate not only your own mom but generations of matriarchs, extended family and women that have had an impact on the lives of others.

It is extremely important for us to be  mindful of the different spaces others may be in on Mothers Day and extend a kind gesture and/or comforting words.  We also need to acknowledge that we’re in an era of reality t.v and a housewives of blah blah blah, which has tremendously compromised the images of women across cultural and racial lines that to  some degree have always been under attack.

A few months ago in post, I mentioned a sister named Sabrina Thompson the creator of  The Social Series  an online campaign which aims to add balance and promote positive images through imagery.  Here is 4th installment of the project and it’s just in time for Mothers day so I urge to share and enjoy,  Motherhood Is…..

Leading up to Sunday and beyond, we need to be to salute, celebrate and acknowledge all of the Mothers, Big Mama’s, Sisters, Grandmother’s, Nana’s, Aunties, Mentors, Mother figures , Godmothers and Teachers alike. It’s also the perfect time to call, mend, and/or forgive; seek to repair relationships on this special day.
