Favorite Holiday To-Do!

Wow, how time fly’s!  It’s hard to believe that it’s already the 2013 holiday season.

Across the city, food and toy drives are well on their way as Thanksgiving and Christmas are both right around the corner.  Many have also already begun making plans for annual volunteer commitments while some are seeking ways to start giving back.

If you are anything like me, every year it becomes increasingly more difficult to figure what to get the kids for Christmas being that they already have so much.  Often times even when asked, they themselves have trouble coming up with a list since they have all of what they need and most of what they want.  I often have the conversation with my parent friends about moving further away from the commercialism of the holidays and getting our families more involved with giving back.

This is the perfect time of year to kick-off introducing or reacquainting your family to volunteer/service work. There are volunteer opportunities that cater to all sorts of schedules and preferences.  Whether it’s a single day of service or an ongoing project; individual or family/group activity, there are service opportunities for just about everyone that want to do it!  Service is a wonderful way to get your children involved in the communityand a great way to begin new family traditions of a Favorite Holiday To-Do!

While it is a bit late to begin planning for Thanksgiving, there still may be a few opportunities available so please keep an open mind and don’t get discouraged.  There may be a training/orientation requirement with some of the organizations, as well as an application process.  If you know of any additional opportunities, please add them to the comments section.

Spread love, it’s the BrooKlyn Kisha Way!
