Don’t Just Give Something Up but Sacrifice for a Transformational Change

It’s Ash Wednesday and we’re about to embark on the most holiest time of year. In reflecting on the goals you may have set for the New Year, it may be worth considering a self check-in. I mean ultimately, any goals set would have been in alignment with living out your God given purpose.

Last year I recognized that the sacrifice that Jesus made was so much greater than sugar, Facebook and yes even cursing for me (I’m  working on that too though). Not knocking anyone who chooses to give up those things for Lent however; I realized there were some serious barriers that were preventing me from living out Gods purpose in my life. After coming across the now viral list of of “40 Things To Give Up For Lent” it became unequivocally clear that my Lenten season needed to be spent with intention, really doing the work that I felt God was nudging me to do.

I shared in a very intimate blog post entitled, “What did you give up for lent“, how I had given up my Comfort Zone, ultimately in order to better serve the kingdom. Too often we temporarily give up thing(s) that we eventually go right back to indulging in that lead us to be separated from God in the first place.

My hope for this Lenten season is that we all take time during this prayerful journey to understand what God is requiring of us to do during this sacred season and beyond. Whatever it is that’s identified to give-up, it should bring about a transformational change that both deepens our relationship  with HIM and make HIS kingdom a better place.
