Buy Black, It’s the Ujamaa Way!

Habari Gani?

Now that we’ve made it to the fourth day of the Nguzo Saba, we need to talk money. Not only is it extremely important for African American people to manage their personal finances to create wealth, we must BUY BLACK!  Supporting minority owned, black businesses keeps the black economy thriving and provide job opportunities.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, now is the time. Even President Obama has insisted that we do so and has provided resources to make it happen.  Then we have those who may already be incorporated, started a non-profit and/or are well on their way and seeking to expand their business here in NY.

No matter what your angle, there is something that we all can do at sustaining Ujamaa.

  • Educating our young people on money and creating opportunities as early as possible, as most banks have some form of financial program for youth.
  • Get our own finances in order by thinking and behaving as though we are rich for 2014
  • Support black businesses: Around The Way is an app that helps you locate black businesses near you and Ujamaa Deals offer daily discounts from Black owned companies.
  • Be informed & inspired, subscribe to Black Enterprise.

    Hey Kisha,
    Ujamaa!
I agree we must support our kind. However our people in business must do the right thing by their supporters. That means selling high quality products without compromise.
Furthermore I wish we had more options to choose from when trying to support black owned businesses.

I couldn’t agree more Calandra. People of color really need to ensure that they are providing quality in product and service as there are plenty of us who don’t mind paying for what we expect to get.
