Be a Part of The Solution!

In the aftermath of the Michael Brown case grand jury decision, people from all of the country have been expressing views on the policing tactics and injustices in the black community.  There has been a continuous spread of protest all over the nation which have included temporary traffic jams, shut down of subway systems and even an organized boycott of Black Friday shopping entitled #BlackOutBlackFriday, which debilitated a mall in St. Louis.  Community members and activist alike, feel as if this may be the straw that broke the camels back in terms of backlash from the black community as a result of another senseless murder of a black male at the hands of the police.  In an effort to show solidarity and to truly support not only the Ferguson community, but poor communities of color nationwide that continue to fall prey of discriminatory police practices, we must Be a Part of The Solution!

As a mother of 2 sons, one of whom is 17 years old and has experienced two separate instances of profiling by the NYPD, here is one way we were able to turn those situations into a teachable moment.  As a step in the positive direction, we were able to exercise my sons rights and hold the Police Officer accountable for inefficient policing.  We must empower our youth and teach them how to use social media along with the systems that are in place to help them, for their benefit.  In no way does this resolve the ongoing deep-rooted racism that contributes to dis-proportionality issues of over representation of black people in the various systems however;  it’s an opportunity to call police officers on their behavior.

Be informed…..Be a Part of The Solution.  Spread Love, It’s The BrooKlyn Kisha Way!
